As smart phones start to take over our everyday life (with
most using them daily) the war rages on between the big 2!! With Apple
fans and Android fans alike.. Each with their reasons as to why their device is
better than the other. On the surface they are both same thing. You can do
almost all the same things on each device..
I myself am an Android user... I wouldn't call myself a fan boy
by any means, I can see that android devices are not fit for all purposes and
the iPhone and iOS devices have their place too.
If someone asked me "Android or iPhone?" I would have
to answer their question with a question... "What is it going to be used
for?".
In my opinion Android devices are good because they can be
cheap, highly customisable and highly versatile. Android users have more power
over the look and feel of their device. The device can be the way they want it
(within reason). This however also makes it a lot easier for things to go
wrong. I feel like it also doesn't have the same style of support that apple
products do so for inexperienced users could run into problems quiet easily.
Personally I feel that Android is the more error prone OS.
On the other side of the fence there is iOS devices. These
devices are not cheap! I think when Apple was designing their devices and OS
they went with a keep it simple silly (KISS) approach. This makes iOS
devices an ideal candidate for situations where you just need the device
to work and don't care so much for customisations. Due to the somewhat
restricted nature of iOS devices the user is unable to cause as many errors or
mistakes thus making the platform 'more reliable' Apple also has the
support for its products with most countries having apple stores
where you can walk in and ask for assistance. Down side to the
iOS devices (apart from the price :(_) is that you need iTunes to sync music
and photos. This bundled with lack of customisations and basic features
(such as non-proprietary Bluetooth file transfer and expandable memory) is
really what kills it for me.
I feel like I am being controlled every time I use an iOS device
and I don't like it but that's just me. I like to tinker and break things by
nature :).
So in short, if you want a phone that's highly customisable and
don't mind having to tinker with setting and other apps that much android is
for you! However if you want or need support and want a stable and reliable
experience with a 'simplistic' interface iOS devices would better suit you!
